A man was found shot in the 1200 block of West Augusta Boulevard in the Goose Island neighborhood — across the river from Goose Island proper — just after 7:10 p.m. He was dead on the scene, according to police.
Officers searched a silver Toyota parked in a tow-away zone underneath a bridge on Racine and Augusta. The driver's door was left open.
Neighbors gathered near the crime scene tape to discuss what had happened as police searched nearby trashcans and photographed the silver car.
Jonathan Ziemer, 30, was home at the time but said none of his neighbors heard or saw anything suspicious in the area and weren't aware that someone was found dead until police arrived.
"It's unsettling, but it's part of living in the city," he said. "It happens everywhere and really shows that you can live in a bad neighborhood and have nothing happen or a good part of the city and something happens."
Earlier, a man was shot and fatally wounded in an attack in the Sheridan Park neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
The 25-year-old man was shot in the torso and leg about 3:40 p.m. in the 4400 block of North Racine Avenue, according to Chicago police, correcting earlier information that indicated the man was shot on Magnolia Avenue.
The man was taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
Officers were called to the area and found the man on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police.
Earlier, in an unrelated shooting, a 23-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound in an attack in the Austin neighborhood, police said. The man walked into West Suburban Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the right leg and told investigators he was walking about 12:40 p.m. in the 5500 block of West Jackson Boulevard when he heard shots and felt pain. He was in good condition.
