While
it is possible to change the venue in a child support case, this is a
hard, difficult thing to do unless you have a very good reason for
changing the venue. The state where both parents lived likes to retain
ownership over the child custody case, even if a parent has moved out of
state. Even if both parents have moved out of state, the state they
used to live in normally wants to retain the
custody case, in an effort to be fair to both of the parents. In order
to get a change of venue in a child custody case, you will need to have
an attorney file the appropriate paperwork to attempt to get the venue
changed. The new venue will need to be in a place that both parents
agree on and in a location that is accessible for both parents. It isn't
fair for one parent to have to travel thousands of miles just to let
their case be known in the hearing that will determine custody of their
child.
