Sometimes
parents and health care providers can recognize characteristics of a
gifted toddler. Toddlers who are gifted display some pretty fascinating
behaviors. They tend to be very curious and interested in how things
work. They love to take things apart and explore what makes them tick.
They love to read and to be read to, often memorizing the words as
parents read. Parents find that they have
a difficult time skipping pages or important parts of a bedtime story
because these toddlers have memorized every word on every page. They
love to scribble and will often scribble their names and simple words on
walls and furniture. They are the do-it-yourself variety. You might
find them trying to make a snack if mom or dad is too slow to get to the
kitchen. Of course they will make a mess in the process, but that is
just part of discovery. One thing must be remembered however, and that
is that gifted toddlers are generally products of parents to spend time
nurturing and encouraging them to discover their gifts, and be the best
they can be. It usually does not happen by chance.
