Characteristics of Orientalism

Orientalism was a nineteenth French artistic movement that sought to capture and extol the mysterious beauty and sensuality of North African, the Middle East and the Mediterranean through cultural imitation and expression in arts, humanities, and architecture. Artists such as Edmund Dulac, Ecem Cafadar, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres re-created the spirit and motifs of art forms and the

depictions of everyday life in those geographical areas. There was also an influx of scholarly studies centering around this artistic movement and contained characteristics of orientalism.
