"When
it comes to affordable living, generally the cheapest or least
expensive area of the United States to live in are in the South and
Midwest regions. The Missouri Economic Research and Information Center
did some research on the least expensive states to live in and have come
up with a list of the top 10. The Top 10 least expensive states to live
in are Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas,
Nebraska, South Dakota, Missouri, Kansas, Georgia and Mississippi. Some
factor that go into figuring out what makes a place expensive or
inexpensive to live in are housing costs, property taxes and state
income taxes. Daily living expenses are also figured in. These include
things like groceries, gas and childcare.Another important factor is
what type of jobs and manufacturers exist in an area. One example is
Seattle that has Microsoft. Because the salaries paid by Microsoft are
high, the cost of living in the area gets inflated compared to a small
city in Oklahoma that may have minimal jobs and a very low cost of
living."
