An
ex parte order in a child custody case is a order that can be made
without notifying the other party. It is one of the ways to obtain a
temporary custody order. One party could try to get an ex parte motion
if the child is at risk either physically or emotionally. This could
also be used if one party is planning to leave the jurisdiction.
