It
breaks my heart to think of the children evacuated in World War 2.
Almost two million children were taken from their home at the beginning
of the war, having to endure rationing, gas masks, living with people
they didn't know, and many more hardships. In Great Britain, the
evacuation of children began on September 1, 1939 and was called
Operation Pied Piper. In all, there were three massive
evacuations of Britain between 1939 and 1945, the last one of which was
