Prosecutors ask for release of 91-year-old Michigan City man convicted of drug transport
Prosecutors have asked a judge to grant the release of a 91-year-old Michigan City man who was convicted of taking more than a ton of cocaine to Michigan for a Mexican drug cartel.
Leo Sharp was sentenced last May to three years in federal prison. The compassionate release request is sealed, but federal law requires it to include “extraordinary and compelling reasons.”
Sharp's attorney has said Sharp was suffering from health problems, including dementia, also adding that Sharp is a WWII veteran.
Sharp is currently serving his sentence at a federal medical facility in Minnesota.
