CURRITUCK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) — A former Currituck County High School teacher has been indicted on charges of committing a sexual offense with a student.
VIRGINIA - Investigators say 24-year-old Kimberly Lynne Umphlett had “inappropriate conduct and sexual contact with a student.”
Back in May, a report was filed with a Currituck County Deputy after the victim told another teacher at the school about the relationship and that teacher alerted administration. Umphlett was terminated following the allegations.
Investigators say the alleged sex offenses had taken place as early as April and continued until the day the it was reported.
According to the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office, Umphlett was charged on Monday. She turned herself in Tuesday and has since bonded out.
A court date for Umphlett will be set at a later date at the Currituck County Judicial Center by the District Attorney’s Office.
