At a Tea Party Patriots rally against the Obama administration’s nuclear deal with Iran, Palin began by saying she wanted to bring some “sanity to this discussion.”
“Thank you for gathering to uphold the promise that was made, the promise of never again,” Palin told the crowd. “And thank you for gathering as we can because we are still a free people. And if you love that freedom, think of that.”
She continued: “Oh and you know, since your president won’t say it, since he still hasn’t called off the dogs, we’ll say it. Police officers and first responders all across this great land, we got your back! We salute you!”
“Thanks you, police officers!”
Okay so I have to admit that when I first heard this yesterday, I kind of discounted it as being a little hyperbolic, and probably inaccurate.
However it seems that I might be in the minority as Mediaite posted the story with no equivocation. As did the Washington Post, and several other news outlets.
And the guy who seems to have been the first to notice the slur, Blue Nation Review editor Jesse Berney, explained why he was certain of what she meant:
"Some folks disagree that Palin calls #BlackLivesMatter 'dogs' in this video. She absolutely does," Blue Nation Review editor Jesse Berney said on social media.
He was among the first to accuse Palin of characterizing BLM members as "dogs."
"No, she doesn't call out BLM by name. But it is 100% clear and obvious who she's referring to. There is zero question about that, and anyone who suggests otherwise is being disingenuous," he added. "When she says 'he still hasn't called off the dogs' everyone knows who she means."
And that my friends is why it never pays to give Sarah Palin the benefit of the doubt.
