John Dickerson asked Carson about the “human side” of addiction on Face the Nation Sunday after mentioning that 25 percent of New Hampshire voters said drug abuse was the most serious problem in New Hampshire, according to a WMUR poll.
Carson answered that a lack of values and principles were responsible for serious drug abuse:
"There are all kinds of addictions and addictions occur in people who are vulnerable who are lacking something in their lives, so we really have to start asking ourselves what have we taken outside of our lives in America? What are some of those values and principles that allowed us to ascend the ladder of success so rapidly to the pinnacle of the world and the highest pinnacle anyone else had ever reached, and why are we throwing away all of our values and principles for the sake of political correctness?"
Did you hear the journalist ask Carson for his opinion "As a doctor?" And yet Carson's response is completely lacking any medical or scientific foundation.
Instead he answers the question as a minister or priest might answer it, framed as if all the ills of society are due to a lack of Jesus in our lives.
At this point I think it is fair to demand to see Carson's medical license and diploma from the University of Michigan.
After all nothing this guy says seems to be true, and his responses to questions seem to be entirely non-scientific or medically informed.
To be fair Chris Christie, who has never claimed to have a background in psychology or medicine, provided a far more substantive and empathetic response to the question of addiction in this country.
Let's face when your bedside manner is worse than Chris Christie's that raises some serious questions about your medical background.
Ben Carson is asked to give his medical opinion on addiction, instead blames political correctness. Wait, what?
