Donald Trump hosted SNL this week, and his appearance drew a lot of attention as usual. He brought in the highest overnight ratings for the show since 2012.
However, it made me smile to see this fun fact about those ratings:
French then links to this LA Times article:
The Saturday telecast averaged a 6.6 rating and a 16% share of the TV audience in the 56 markets that Nielsen tabulates for overnight ratings. It was the strongest overnight number for "SNL" since former NBA star Charles Barkley hosted the program.
But the well-publicized appearance by Trump falls far short of the 10.7 overnight rating the show received on Oct. 18, 2008, when Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was featured. At the time, it was the highest rated "SNL" in 14 years.
French continues with this:
(And that happened to be on my 18th birthday!) Mom, you’re the best!
Okay well first off I think it has WAY longer than seven years since Nancy French saw eighteen.
And second is the idea that more people tuned in with the hopes of seeing Sarah Palin fail miserably, than did to see Trump do the same, really something worth bragging about?
Besides let's face it NOBODY was hoping that Donald Trump would have a wardrobe malfunction.
Now I am no Trump defender (That's an understatement.) but he DID actually take the plunge and launch a real live presidential campaign instead of teasing his supporters for years and then wimping out at the last minute, like somebody we could mention.
Not only that but he also does not have to hire a woman to portray his daughter on the internet in order to get flattering things said about him.
I have an idea, let's have Sarah Palin go on SNL NOW and see what kinds of ratings she gets.
But we already know she won't. Even IF they would even book her these days. Which is doubtful.
Nancy French brags about fact that her "mom's" SNL appearance received higher ratings than Donald Trump's.
