Just a not so subtle message to the United States from Vlad. |
A new appraisal names the United States as one of the threats to Russia's national security for the first time, a sign of how relations with the west have deteriorated in recent years.
The document, "About the Strategy of National Security of Russian Federation", was signed by President Vladimir Putin on New Year's Eve. It replaces a 2009 version, endorsed by then- President Dmitry Medvedev, the current prime minister, which mentioned neither the United States not NATO.
You know if this were the 1980's the Republicans would see this is a badge of honor.
Of course now they see Vladimir Putin as some great leader and President Obama as a wimp. Clearly Putin does not share that sentiment, since wimps are rarely listed as national security threats.
It should also be pointed out that we ALSO list Russia as a threat to our national security, so I guess we're even.
Besides who wants to be friends with a guy who invaded the Ukraine while actively denying he was doing so and who kills journalists like some people swat flies to see us as non-threatening?
Having said that the idea that both countries list each other as national security threats makes those of us who remember the cold war more than a little uncomfortable.
