Bobby Heard, 32, of the 5200 block of South Honore Street, was taken into custody in St. Louis, Mo., by the U.S. Marshals Service on charges of Class X felony murder and armed robbery, according to a Kane County State's Attorney's news release.
"Thanks to Carpentersville Police Chief Mike Kilbourne and his team at the Carpentersville Police Department, and the U.S. Marshal Service for their work in this case," Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon said in the release. "It's good to know that we can count on multiple agencies to work together to solve crimes."
A warrant for Heard's arrest was issued last week and his bail was set at $3 million, the release stated. He is being held in the Greene County Jail in Springfield, Mo., while awaiting extradition, authorities said.
According to the State's Attorney and Carpentersville Police Department, Heard and Kenyon Slater, 37, of Chicago, entered Oscarin's Computers, in the 1600 block of Ravine Lane in Carpentersville, around 7:30 p.m. armed with handguns. The men used nylon zip ties to restrain two people working in the store and demanded cash, the release stated.
They grabbed "some phones and approximately $15,000 cash" during the robbery, court documents show.
According to reports, one of the men struck an employee of the store in the head with a handgun before fleeing the scene. One of the employees was able to free himself, got a handgun and ran out of the store into a parking lot where he shot Slater, the release stated
