The most recent fatal shooting was about 4 a.m., when a 20-year-old man was killed and another person was injured in the Near North neighborhood. Someone came out of a fast food restaurant in the 100 block of West Division Street and opened fire, hitting the men nearby, police said. The shooter fled south on Clark Street in a Chevy Tahoe. The men were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where one was pronounced dead and the other was listed in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the back.
At 2:25 a.m., a 23-year-old man was killed in Brainerd. Police responding to a call of shots fired found him in a gangway in the 8900 block of South Laflin Street; he had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead on the scene.
One neighbor heard "an awful lot" of gunfire and looked out to see a man lying in the gangway with a woman leaning over him.
The shooting occurred less than a block from where a man was killed Sept. 10. The next day, a woman was killed and two other people were wounded at a vigil for him.
"It's been exactly a week," the neighbor said. "Saturday they killed the boy, Sunday they killed the little girl, Sunday they killed another boy."
At 1:55 a.m. Sunday, a 36-year-old man was fatally shot in the Washington Park neighborhood. A dark-colored SUV drove up to him in the 5100 block of South Indiana Avenue, then someone exited the car, pulled out a gun and fired twice. The man was shot in the head and pronounced dead; the shooter got back in the SUV and fled east on 51st Street.
At midnight, a 20-year-old man was killed during a house party in Gage Park.
Partygoers had gotten an invitation to the house party that said no weapons or gangbanging would be tolerated: "Leave the bulls--t at home and come celebrate," it said.
"Everything was so good, it was fun," said one partygoer, Cristopher, who asked to be identified only by his first name.
"I came out of the washroom, I heard a bottle break, then four or five shots go off," he said.
He turned around to see a man lying on the floor. Someone leaned over him, trying to give him CPR.
Police said the man had gotten into an altercation with someone who pulled a gun and shot him in the chest. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital and pronounced dead.
The Cook County medical examiner's office identified him as Tontriche Weathersby Jr. of the 2100 block of West 91st Street in Evergreen Park.
