A 71-year-old man was shot in the abdomen during a robbery and another man was gunned down in Uptown during separate attacks Tuesday afternoon on the North and Southwest sides.
The 71-year-old was outside in the 7000 block of South California Avenue when two assailants who were riding on bicycles confronted him and demanded his wallet, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a spokesman for Chicago police.
“When he refused, they shot him in the abdomen, ’’ said Sweeney, adding that the attack happened at 12:10 p.m. in the city's Marquette Park neighborhood.
The 71-year-old victim was taken to Holy Cross Hospital but was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he remains in fair condition, Sweeney said.
