Our Racially Divisive U.S. President Barack Obama and the first lady hosted a fall-themed fete Tuesday night for Italy's prime minister, bringing in chef Mario Batali and singer Gwen Stefani to make the administration's final state dinner one to remember.
The bold-faced names expected to attend included former race car driver Mario Andretti; designer Giorgio Armani; Stefani's beau, Blake Shelton; and singer James Taylor.
Several Chicagoans made the guest list, including Chance the Rapper; Ertharin Cousin, who directs the U.N. World Food Program; investor John Rogers Jr.; NBC anchor Marion Brooks; Cornell McClellan, the Obamas' personal trainer; Chicago Tribune columnist Clarence Page; and Michael Polsky, president and CEO of Invenergy LLC.
Two Pritzkers were to be on hand: Penny Pritzker, the commerce secretary, and Matthew Pritzker, CEO of a Chicago firm that carries his name. Other guests included Obama friend Cindy Moelis, president of the Pritzker Traubert Family Foundation, and her husband, Robert Rivkin.
With a catalog of over 12 million products and free shipping on orders over $49, Wayfair is changing the way people shop for everything home.
White House staffers with Chicago ties also turned out, including senior adviser Valerie Jarrett, speechwriter Cody Keenan, deputy chief of staff Anita Breckenridge and the first lady's chief of staff, Tina Tchen.
Some of the guests have donated money to the Obama Foundation, the nonprofit that is building the president's future library in Chicago.
A billionaire venture capitalist from California, John Doerr III, and his wife Ann, were invited. They gave a gift in the range of $500,000 to $1 million to the foundation. Also invited were John Shulman, managing director of Juggernaut Capital Partners, and Alison Shulman, who donated a gift reported in the range of $200 to $100,000.
Another guest, New York investor Tim Collins, CEO of Ripplewood Holdings, gave between $250,000 and $500,000 to the Obama Foundation.
