CHICAGO — Hate going to the hospital? Well, you can feel a little bit better about it if you’re laid up in one of these seven Chicago-area institutions.
All seven received straight A’s from an independent, national not-for-profit that grades hospitals.
The Leapfrog Group, along with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, evaluated the hospitals on the basis of numerous criteria and consolidated the results into a single letter grade for each.
The seven straight A hospitals for the fall of 2016 are Rush‐Copley Medical Center in Aurora, West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst, and Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Others receiving A’s were Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, Rush Oak Park Hospital in Oak Park, AMITA Health La Grange in La Grange, Saint Anthony Hospital in Chicago, Presence Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, AMITA Health Hinsdale in Hinsdale, Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center in Chicago, Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, and Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
Only four hospitals in Chicago-area Patch towns received D’s. They were Roseland Community Hospital in Chicago, Loretto Hospital in Chicago, University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago and Mercy Hospital and Medical Center Chicago. Roseland Community, University of Illinois and Mercy all were graded as C hospitals in the preceding marking period, the Spring of 2016. Loretto fell all the way from an A.
