COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State University issued an alert Monday morning warning students to shelter in place because of an active shooter.
The alert, which appeared on the university’s website and the Twitter feed for OSU Emergency Management, said there was an active shooter in Watts Hall:
Buckyeye Alert: Active Shooter on campus. Run Hide Fight. Watts Hall. 19th and College
Another alert said:
Buckeye Alert: Continue to shelter in place. Avoid area of College. More information to follow.
The school’s website updated with this information at 10:20 a.m.:
Buckeye Alert: Continue to shelter in place in north campus area. Follow directions of Police on scene.
Citing the Columbus Fire Department, WSYX in Columbus reported that at least nine people were taken to an area hospital.
Students told CNN they heard multiple gunshots on campus. Police cars, fire trucks and ambulances were seen near campus buildings and roads in the area were closed.
