Matthew Talley's family says the 33-year-old passionate Cubs fan who was killed in a car accident the day the Cubs clinched the World Series win would be overjoyed.
"He'd be over the moon," said his sister-in-law Kim Talley on Friday. "He's in heaven now with a bunch of people whooping it up. He's with Harry Caray and his grandfather and aunt."
Western Springs police say Talley, who worked in sales at Willowbrook Ford, was killed in a one-car accident in the 4400 block of Gilbert Avenue at 12:18 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2. About 24 hours later, the Cubs won the seventh game in the World Series against the Cleveland Indians.
Talley, who was driving a 2014 Ford Focus, struck two utility poles. He was unresponsive when police responded, and was taken to Loyola Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Although his family is not sure where he had been before the accident, they believe he had been watching the Game 6 in the Cubs-Indians series and was heading home because he had to work early the next day.
Talley grew up in Western Springs and in La Grange, where he attended St. Cletus Catholic School. He graduated from Lyons Township High School in 2001.
His mother, Andrea, said she will remember most "his smile and his sense of humor," which is exemplified by an ironic saying he often repeated: "Life is all rainbows and roses in Western Springs."
Being a Cub fan was a tradition passed down in the family for Talley, who also was a Chicago Bears and Blackhawks fan.
