Two drivers were killed in a crash early Sunday on the Dan Ryan Expressway on the South Side, police said.
Shortly after 3 a.m., one vehicle was on the shoulder in the outbound express lanes of I-90/94 near 47th Street when it was rear-ended by another vehicle, according to Illinois State Police.
Both drivers, who were the only occupants of their vehicles, were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No other injuries were reported. The Cook County medical examiner’s office did not immediately provide information on the fatalities.
All outbound lanes in the area were temporarily closed to traffic, police said.
