Police said 26-year-old Olajuwon Claiborne of Chicago beat and robbed Josephine Regnier at her Garfield Park home on Wednesday. She was just released from the hospital on Saturday and is recovering from broken ribs and a concussion.
The victim's daughter, Judy Dusk, said she was waiting for one of her daughters outside her building in the 5100-block of South Long Avenue to pick her up to go to the dentist when she was attacked around 11:50 a.m. Wednesday. Police said the suspect pushed Regnier into the hallway of her building. He hit her and stole her purse, police said.
A short time after the attack, police said officers found an abandoned SUV in an alley in the 5700-block of South Archer Avenue, behind Villa Rosa Pizza, about a block away from Regnier's home. Police learned the vehicle had been reported stolen.
Claiborne has been charged with home invasion, aggravated battery of a victim over 60, robbery of a victim over 60 and two counts of robbery. Police said Claiborne is linked to two other robberies.
