Despite saying the strangulation death of a Northbrook lawyer was an isolated case and 36-year-old Jigar K. Patel was the intended target, police Chief Charles J. Wernick said Saturday afternoon the department was not on the verge of an arrest in the slaying.
Wernick said investigators have reviewed footage from surveillance cameras and followed up on tips in the death of Patel, a Prospect Heights resident whose body was found in his third-floor office in the 1300 block of Shermer Road in downtown Northbrook.
Police went to the office about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday to conduct a wellness check requested by his wife, who had reported him missing.
"He was scheduled to make a stop on the way home and didn't make that stop," Wernick said.
