Good
research no matter the topic has similar characteristics. The first
thing to looks at is the subject. Whatever subject being researched
needs to have good tension. The tension requires the researcher to take a
view, and find evidence that supports or discredits that view.Make sure
the research is systematic. Employ valid principles and procedures.Make
sure the research is able to be
reproduced. So if there is someone else testing the research they can
reproduce the research as directed.Keep the research controlled. Make
sure the research has constant variables.Make sure the research is
emporical and based on the data, not on what could happen in the
future. After this check the research that is already out there. Do a
literature review on research on what has been done. Make sure there is a
clear understanding of the direction of otherAnother way to verify that
the research is good. The goal is inferenceThe procedures are publicThe
conclusions are uncertainThe content is methodThe scientific method is
as followsObservation and description of aphenomenon or group of related
phenomenaFormulation of a hypothesis to explain thephenomenaPredict the
existence of other phenomenausing the hypothesisConduct experimental
tests of the prediction. There is a form of the scientific method that is
called the Hypothetico-deductive model. It works as follows and
provides the following frame work.Gather data (observations about
something that is unknown, unexplained, or new)Hypothesize an
explanation for those observations.Deduce a consequence of that
explanation (a prediction). Formulate an experiment to see if the
predicted consequence is observed.Wait for corroboration. If there is
corroboration, go to step 3. If not, the hypothesis is falsified. Go to
step 2.Whatever the subject that is being researched. Make sure the
research can be reproduced by someone who wants to research what has
been done. Make sure the facts are indespitutable and not subject to the
researchers bias. More reference links: www.indiana.edu faculty.virginia.edu
