Detroit Police are investigating a fatal shooting in Greektown that left one man dead and another injured Sunday night.
The fatal shooting comes a day after a 19-year-old woman was shot in the ankle and in the stomach Saturday night in Greektown near Monroe and Beaubien streets, police said.
Detroit Police Officer Dan Donakowski said a 19-year-old man was found dead Sunday around 11:43 p.m. in the 400 block of Monroe. Another male, 21, was also found shot but he was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Donakowski said.
"Witnesses reported hearing shots and observed the crowd running," Donakowski said, adding that police have no information on suspects at this time.
Donakowski said more officers will be patrolling the downtown area tonight in light of the Ford Fireworks on the Detroit River.
The two shootings in Greektown were part of a violent weekend for the city of Detroit.
Eleven people were injured and a man was killed on the city's west side Saturday night at a party where hundreds, including families and children, gathered.
The person fatally shot — 19-year-old Malik Jones — was believed to be part of the gunfight and had been shot less than a month earlier. Police are looking for two men, both of whom had a gun. One of the men had a silver handgun with an extended clip.
Police Chief James Craig called the shooters "urban terrorists" and implored witnesses to come forward with information. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-SPEAK-UP (800-773-2587).
