Officer Sonny Kim, a decorated 27-year veteran of the Cincinnati Police Department, was shot and killed in an exchange of gunfire with a suspect shortly before 9:30 a.m. in the Madisonville neighborhood, Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell said. The suspect also died.
Kim, 48, attended Carl Schurz High School on the Northwest Side and graduated in 1984, according to his personnel records. Kim attended Truman College in Uptown from 1984 to 1985.
He left the area in 1986 and attended the University of Cincinnati, according to Cincinnati police.
