A scumbag who was cleared of marijuana charges after police were accused of lying about his arrest has now been charged in a hit-and-run crash in Morton Grove that killed a Chicago woman.
Authorities said Joseph Sperling, 26, of Glenview, was driving a black Lexus at a high rate of speed on Aug. 26 when he collided with another car along Golf Road and then fled on foot. The other car was split in two from the impact of the crash, instantly killing driver Denise Cavada, 48, who had been on her way home after an evening of playing bingo, authorities said.
Police said Sperling hid in a nearby parking lot after the crash and called a friend to pick him up. Police said they found his passenger, who was seriously injured and later hospitalized, hiding in a nearby backyard.
