So as Emanuel vaguely talked about the possibility of hiring “hundreds” of new officers, Garcia had a chuckle at the mayor’s expense.
“For a candidate who said my 1,000 new cop plan was fairy dust, look who’s acting like Tinker Bell now,” Garcia said.
Only time will tell, however, whether Emanuel will swirl in a cloud of pixie dust of his own making. At a Friday news conference, the mayor did not make clear whether he plans to just keep up with attrition, again move more cops from desks to beats or increase the overall authorized level of police staffing.
