An 80-year-old former preacher was fatally shot early Monday, and neighbors say the suspect who killed him is also a former preacher.
The two may have been arguing about religion, CBS 2’s Jeremy Ross reports.
Chicago police say they have a person in custody in connection with the death, which occurred at the Senior Suites of Rainbow Beach early Monday.
Police say the 80-year-old victim was shot in the face and died.
“I look out the window, and all I could see was policemen,” resident Susie Davis says.
She lives in the same building as the victim and suspect, she says. Neighbors say both men were pastors who frequently argued, though they were also considered to be friends.
Jamie Weems says he knows both retired preachers. He describes the shooter as a person who uses a wheelchair and conducted weekly services in the complex.
He said both men would argue, sometimes about religion, but neighbors believe Monday morning those verbal shots turned into lethal ones outside.
The housing complex issued a statement: “We are deeply saddened by this event as the health and safety of our all of our residents is and always will be our top priority.”
