The incident occurred about 3 a.m. in the parking lot of the Burlington Coat Factory, in the 2000 block of Manheim Road, according to Gary Mack, a spokesman for the Melrose Park Police Department.
Melrose Park police called to the scene found the woman, identified as Samantha Perez, pinned beneath a vehicle in the parking lot, Mack said. No charges have been filed in the case, he said Tuesday.
Perez was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where she was pronounced dead about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
The medical examiner's office ruled that the death was caused by complications of traumatic asphyxiation due to a vehicle rolling over the pedestrian. The manner of death was ruled an accident, the office said
