Two men were killed and at least 11 other people have been wounded in Chicago shootings since midmorning Tuesday, including five people shot in three attacks over a 75-minute period in the morning, according to police.
The most recent fatal shooting occurred just after 9:15 p.m. in West Englewood, where a 32-year-old man was found on the street in the 6700 block of South Wolcott Avenue. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with multiple gunshot wounds to the head, and was pronounced dead shortly after 10 p.m.
The five people shot within 75 minutes were all wounded in attacks on the South Side, the most recent of which killed one man and wounded another.
They were in the 1800 block of West 58th Street at about 10:45 a.m. when they were shot, police said. A 30-year-old man was shot in the chest, and a 27-year-old man was shot in the back. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital.
The older man was pronounced dead at 6:30 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, which identified him as Raymond D. Griffin. He lived in the same block where he was shot.
Around 10:40 a.m. on the Far South Side, a 39-year-old man was shot in the right leg in the 600 block of West 107th Street, police said. He was taken to Roseland Community Hospital in fair condition.
About 9:30 a.m., two men were shot in the Gresham neighborhood on the South Side, according to Chicago police. The men, ages 35 and 36, were in the 8600 block of South Morgan Street when a red vehicle pulled up and someone fired shots at them. The 35-year-old man was shot in the back and right foot and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition. The 36-year-old was shot in the left thigh and ankle and taken to the same hospital in fair condition.
Across Chicago, three men were killed and at least 19 other people — including four 15-year-old boys — were wounded in shootings from Monday afternoon through early Tuesday. It was a violent end to a month that saw 78 homicides, more than double the 30 from the same month last year, according to police statistics.
The last weekend of October was the deadliest in Chicago so far this year, with 17 people killed by gunfire, including an eighth-grader and 17-year-old twins. The number of homicides is running 200 above this time last year.
In other shootings:
At 9:40 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in Burnside. He was in a parked car in the 1000 block of East 93rd Street when a tan Jeep Cherokee drove by and someone inside opened fire. The man was shot in the arm and went to Advocate Christ Medical Center in fair condition.
About five minutes before that, a 25-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet during a dice game in Lawndale. She was with a small group in the 4100 block of West 19th Street when someone emerged from a nearby alley and opened fire, then fled. The woman was grazed on the left side of her head and went to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
Just before 8:40 p.m., a 34-year-old man was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. He went to Norwegian American Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg and was listed in good condition after being shot in the 1000 block of North Homan Avenue, police said.
About 5:50 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in the first block of North Wood Street on the Near West Side. He was shot in the left thigh and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
In the most recent attack that left someone critically injured, a 23-year-old man was hurt in a shooting in the 8000 block of South Muskegon Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood about 2:45 p.m. The man was shot in the back, leg and flank and shoulder and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, according to a police media notification. The man told police he was on foot when someone came up to him and announced a robbery, took out a gun and shot the man, according to police.
Earlier, two teens were shot in the 5300 block of West Crystal Street in the Austin neighborhood about 2:10 p.m. A 16-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, while an 18-year-old was shot in the left leg and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, according to police. Information about the circumstances of the shooting were not released.
