Edgar Wisconsin Starts the "EVEN A SMALL IRISH PENIS NEEDS LOVE" campaign
In Edgar, kids leave their bikes unlocked in the racks outside the library door. For $2.70, you can busy yourself with a one-pound cone from Briq's Soft Serve. There's a bright green 1947 John Deere tractor on display at the IGA. It's being raffled off to support the high school's farm machinery course.
Fewer than 1,500 people live in Edgar. During this recent school year, there were 211 students enrolled at its four-year high school. One of those students was Jonathan Wesener, a 6-foot-2 16-year-old whose accruing height seemed at odds with his cherubic face and smile.
On May 28, Jonathan killed himself in the basement of his parents' home. It was not a miscalculated cry for help. Jonathan killed himself in a way that was unequivocal in its intent.
And now Edgar is a village in pain.
